Ship Wars Prompt Two: Ain't no sunshine when (s)he's gone

So this is the joint entry for the second Ship Wars prompt over at [livejournal.com profile] st_respect: Ain't no sunshine when (s)he's gone.

And I can tell you, [livejournal.com profile] ladyblahblah and I totally kicked some artsy ass! She wrote the drabble and I alternatively cried onto my keyboard and laughed hysterically because [livejournal.com profile] ladyblahblah just does that to me (also, I did the art). Furthermore, [livejournal.com profile] ladyblahblah would like to inform you that she is totally wearing flowers in her hair right now and never kids; and I wanna tell her again how great it was to work with her. This piece turned out so much better for her input. Thank youuuu! ♥

Title: Only now, it burns
Rating: PG
Summary/Description: When Spock goes away to purge all emotions, Kirk knows what he has done. And when he wakes up after another dream of the Vulcan desert, he feels his skin burning.
Warnings: emosad, displays of manpain
Word count: 99 luftballons words

I don't know if the others know why it happened. It doesn't matter, really; I know. Know I could have made him stay if I had been willing to give more, to be more. More His, and less the skirt-chasing commitment-phobe I made myself out to be. Old habits are hard to break, though. It seems there's something James Tiberius Kirk can't do, after all.

I can't feel him anymore. Didn't even realize I could until the touch of his mind was gone.

I still get up in the morning, and the sun still shines.

Only now, it burns.

Only now, it burns.

Bigger manpain is better!

This... is amazing.

I am speachless.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU!

Can I lend you a dictionary? *is helpful* XD

[identity profile] tinocka.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I study English so I have several dictionaries around, but I am afraid the intensive awesomeness of the picture reduced me to stunned puddle of moved and emotional goo (yes, I swear that being stunned puddle of moved and emotional goo is possible...)

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
stunned puddle of moved and emotional goo
Hey. on Grey's it's practically a medical term. :D

Thank you again! And, really, I'm very glad it had that effect on you. ♥

[identity profile] mata090680.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
Just wow! ;D

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)

Thank you!!

I absolutely loved this! Really atmospheric and a nice twist on the prompt.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much! ♥

[identity profile] scraplove.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Guuhhhhhhh. That's so sad! *hugs Jim* This was lovely, both of you.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much. I'm sure from both of us! ♥

[identity profile] anoncomment7.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I am absolutely in love with the last two lines of the drabble. And the manip is just perfect. God, I knew you two together was going to be trouble awesome. XD

Anon7

[identity profile] ladyblahblah.livejournal.com 2010-01-24 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right? I wish I could take credit for those, but they were all her. XD

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
they were all her
Now, that's not true!

So. I'd love to link to your emosad!stick!Kirk critically acclaimed, insightful art!beta ...art, or even include it in the post! That okay?

Btw, do you wanna, idk, post the drabble and the preview to your own journal and link back here and I backlink (huh?) to your entry AND THEN WE'RE GONNA BE CAUGHT IN A LOOP NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN OUTSIDE THE STAR TREK FANDOM OMG.

Or... we could manage something less melodramatic. :D

[identity profile] ladyblahblah.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
But it is! The last line was what you gave me to start the drabble. -_- Without that line none of it would have happened.

I could do that . . . I think. And YOU TALK ABOUT BEING TRAPPED IN ST FANDOM FOR ALL TIME LIKE IT'S A BAD THING.

For realz, though, let's try to avoid anything that ends with us slingshoting around the sun or something. I don't have an aquarium tank large enough to hold a whale.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, but anon7 is talking about the last two lines! The getting up in the morning followed by the sun still shines was your idea! God, just listen to us, bickering about who did what... XD

'Kay, let's work out the details tomorrow. ANd you don't have to if you don't want. But if you wanted to, you could!

I ENDED THERE BECAUSE THE NEXT THING I WOULD HAVE SAID IS THAT THAT WOULDN'T BE TOO BAD. :D

ROFL. But then we could argue forever about whether we like Italian food or not.

[identity profile] ladyblahblah.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
OHAI LOOK WHAT I DID (http://ladyblahblah.livejournal.com/13962.html).

[identity profile] ladyblahblah.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, I need to take some sort of a class in FOCUSING, as I completely forgot to say: yes, feel free to post my EPIC AWESOME artwork! It will be a struggle, having that much win in one post, but I think we're up for the challenge. XD

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-29 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I linked to your comment in [livejournal.com profile] teamspork.

See, when you blinked the world collapsed BUT IT ROSE AGAIN MORE BEAUTIFUL AND STRONGER. :D

*headdesking so hard the sound breaks the sound barrier*

While I wrote the above I thought, hey, what if the entry is flocked?? Will rectify immediately.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. WE ROCKED THAT THING LIKE A FIERCELY ROCKING CRADLE! ♥

[identity profile] cydienne.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
The manip is awesome. Great colors, textures and composition, that vivid orange just put you in the right mood(and rocks from the background look like they`re from Gorn episode or Vulcan in STXI).

And why oh why my evil mind tells me that somewhere under that rock (small one beside Kirk) is very flat Spock? Go to sleep evil mind.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
From Voyage Home, actually. It's the exact same rock Spock stands on, looking down to Jim (and Jim longingly looking up to him). YAY!

It's very possible that it's the same rock formation in Arena (and any other episode they shot outside) because apparently it's just outside (relatively speaking) the studio. Roswell, too, was shot there. :)

Rest assured, it's definitely not Spock under the rock. It's like, a metaphor kind of thing. You know, that kind of thing artsy folks use when they're actually thinking about stuff and show instead of telling type of thing :D actually, the rock was part of the original image and at some point I thought, hey, that is really really cool! :D

[identity profile] cydienne.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
I didn`t know that this place was called Vasquez Rocks :P

"Appearances in Star Trek
* TOS:
o "Arena"
o "The Alternative Factor"
o "Shore Leave"
o "Friday's Child"
* TNG:
o "Who Watches The Watchers"
o "Darmok"
* VOY:
o "Initiations"
* ENT:
o "Unexpected"
* Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
* Star Trek "

:D I was right, you were right :)
I`ve mentioned the Gorn (Arena) episode because it`s one of my favorites (Go warrior!Kirk).

Metaphors are my friends too :P To lazy to draw a face? Draw mysterious and strong light or few lens flares :D And more lens flares.

(And no Spock under the rock? It means that I need to draw it: end of the episode, planet was saved, they eliminated bad guy and then Spock was killed by some illogical meteorite. Oh I can almost see Kirk`s face... :D And yes I`m evil)

I AM WEEPY WITH MANPAIN LOVE

[identity profile] nix-this.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
You guize. OH YOU GUIZE.

That last line is killer! And the manip (I totally see the ground now! ;) )

*applause*

Re: I AM WEEPY WITH MANPAIN LOVE

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
OH YES WE GUIZE! :D

(Though I have a number of thinky thoughts about the manip: I assumed that it's fairly obvious that this is the a Vulcan desert from the rock formation in the background; that the rock in the foreground is obviously a metaphory type of thing... I'm just not sure if that comes across at all and am therefore filled again with art!angst. D: )

*ladyblahblah and I bow to the appreciative audience*

[identity profile] jaylee-g.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Wow. Good god you guys are good. This is stunning. Beautiful. Amazing. I think I'll stop now before I start to sound like a thesaurus, lol, but needless to say... fantastic job! :-)

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-01-25 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, thesauruses are a very educating and eloquent company. :)

Wow. Gorgeous wallpaper, and so sad.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww, thanks! They had a few stretches of time where there was less of the hand-holding and more of the emoting in space, didn't they? VERY SAD INDEED.

[identity profile] talitha78.livejournal.com 2010-02-07 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice work--very evocative.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-02-22 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually what we were trying to do rolled into one word. :)

A late, but no less heartfelt, THANK YOU! ♥

(Anonymous) 2010-02-07 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
: O
So sad! I love it, though. It was verrrry well written. The simplicity is what makes it so impactful to me.

I love the wallpaper too! So well done.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-02-22 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU! From the both of us. ♥

OMG it's TOS manpain!!!!!

...I apologize for having nothing else to really say.

[identity profile] coffeestudies.livejournal.com 2010-02-22 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It's ok, BB! It's more than understandable to be left speechless in the face of this much epic Space!Manpain. :D

[identity profile] murf1307.livejournal.com 2010-02-23 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
And it's even more awesome when it's the *original* epic space manpain with a side of emosad.
