(1.12 captain jack harkness) okay, in the dance hall, right? whenjohnny jack, all clenched-jaw determination, walks up to baby jack who's moping away at the table, did anyone else expect him to growl "No one puts baby in a corner!", and sweep him off his chair onto the dancefloor, or was it just me? "The 21st century is when it all changes, and you've gotta be ready." how cool is that?
- did you know that ianto's position is listed on wiki as 'General Support'? umpf. that's one way to put it. he's a freaking encyclopedia in a suit. he's also smart and actually does use his gun if he has to and doesn't need to be told when he has to. he can Make Decisions. i'm sure he makes coffee wonderfully but what a waste. is this still some sort of penance for harboring a cyberwoman? then what about tosh bringing in a dangerous alien? what about owen opening the rift? they had been told off and forgiven. or is it maybe that ianto isn't either arrogant enough to just (re)claim his position like owen, nor girlish enough to induce instant forgiveness and overprotectiveness like tosh?
- did you notice that i have issues with tosh? i'd be afraid to take her to a halloween party; she might get scared of the masks.
- i liked gwen a lot in the beginning. still do. but when exactly did she become so desperate? when she realized she's not anymore a part of the world she initially joined torchwood to protect? must be.
- god. they are all so screwed up.
- on with the screwed-upedness. jack/ianto=otp. without a doubt. just not othp (=one true healthy pairing).
- plotholes? we buy them cheap, brainwash them and make them work for us. mhuhaha!
so let's talk torchwood.

- It was cool for the first 20 episodes. Kidding :V
- Well yes, General Support (For Everything). The thing is, Ianto doesn't have a position to (re)claim. He was hired to do what he does now, only less. (see "Fragments"). What should his position be? Right hand of Jack would be nice, but that's Gwen (for whichever reason).
- Tosh is very cool in "Adam". And sometimes awesome in between, but especially in the last ep.
- Arrrgh. Gwen. Babe, stop encouraging Jack's flirting
ON YOUR WEDDING WHAT THE FUUUUUCK, and I'll stop being pissed at you. Or I'll end up putting Rhys and Ianto together because apparently you and Jack are just too stupid.- Yes, they are. It's very nice. Except for Jack, who annoys with EMO. I hope they'll stop that in Season 3 and make hi cool and mysterious again.
I thought so too, and was happy with it. Season 2 made me kind of hate it. Maybe you'll see why, maybe not. GO WATCH IT OK?
- Same with every sci-fi show: Don't look for plot-holes and you wont find them, LOL.
I did. You didn't say I had to be positive :V

Date: 2008-05-21 10:43 pm (UTC)so you didn't have a dirty dancing deja-vu kind of feeling in 1.12, did you? hmm. what about brokeback mountain when ianto smells jack's coat in end of days?
- you know, when you wrote General Support, i was actually reading general as rank. as in General I. Support. hehe.
but wasn't he introduced as Cover-up Man? (and that makes me think "cover boy" - ianto as cover boy of the monthly torchwood magazine, Torchwood Today. this month: my last normal day; torchwood four news!; the kinkiest things done with alien tech (true stories anonymized!); and the title story: Ianto Jones Uncovered - More than just the Tea-Boy!)
anyway, it's probably really a 'fault' on ianto's side: he tries to blend in instead of being a part of the team. he's probably not a good team-player anyway. i feel that he finds it hard to connect and therefore isolates himself. come to think of it, he had his strongest scenes when it's ianto against the world/team/team-member; when he's alone in one way or another. yes, that's what i think. i think i actually understand him better now.
- funnily enough, i do have a lot of respect for gwen. they all cope in their own way, but the very reason jack hired her (being a part of the 'outer' world) becomes her downfall: she cannot possibly unite the two worlds without either loosing the one or tainting the other. so how many kinds of stupid is it to marry the guy she cheated on, drugged, and locked in a cell, all the while having feeeeeeeelings for at least one other bloke?? oh, i think i forgot the part where i elaborate on why i respect her. oops. because she keeps going. she's trying. trying to keep it together and to do the right things (even if she fails a bit on that last part)
I did. You didn't say I had to be positive :V
yes, you did. no, i didn't. i firmly believe in everybody being allowed to say whatever they want and not really shooting them until they're quite dead if i don't like it.
have you checked out the message board (http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/sites/arg/pages/messages.shtml?character=ianto)? not sure who's writing that stuff but it's good fun to read and sounds authentic.
uh. merde. gotta go now.

Date: 2008-05-25 09:48 pm (UTC)1.12 made me "meh" because at least I'm not really sure Ianto knows what he got himself into with Jack. And if he knows if he can really handle it or if he's quietly emoing around. That's the problem I had with the rest of Season 2 too, because that doubt just got stronger :/
come to think of it, he had his strongest scenes when it's ianto against the world/team/team-member; when he's alone in one way or another.
I absolutely agree. When it's him against the world he truly shines. That's supposed to be a bad thing, LOL.
I like Gwen. Really, I do. Her scenes with Rhys are always great, but she needs to stop the thing with Jack. I guess I'm touchy with betrayal?
I think it's authentic!
You leave me here, alone with my tears...

Date: 2008-05-26 10:54 pm (UTC)i think he's well aware of the fact that jack is not exactly commitment-guy (and i hope jack didn't tell him differently, because that would make him a jackass (hehe, couldn't resist...)) and he seems to cope with that. then again, he can hide so terribly much behind that pretty face of his. but anyway, we've seen how deeply ianto gets emotionally involved when he loves and sometimes you just can't help it even if you know it's wrong, wrong, WRONG! and i don't want to see him hurt! *sniff*
you know what bugs me about gwen? it's actually not at all that i dislike the character. it's that she seems to be - apart from jack - everybody's favourite, gets screentime to no end and is credited for everything and its mutant, much better duplicate. i say, no!, she's not the beginning and the end of everything. i put my foot down and say, no. that's what i'm doing. right now.
c'mon here, dry your tears on the corner of my new
kinkyshiny coat!(no subject)
Date: 2008-05-29 08:43 pm (UTC)(lol, would you believe me if I told you that I'd never noticed the Jack-ass thing? *facepalm* THAT EXPLAINS SO MUCH!!) I don't want that either! he's enough emotionally crippled as it is.
Hm, yeah. I get where all the MARY SUE screams come from. The scene when she googles something for the case and is better at it than Tosh and Ianto? Made me LOL in a bad way. Shove it deeper down my throat, I think I can still breathe!
I love it when you

Date: 2008-06-04 08:44 pm (UTC)your jackass is my janto. ;) (that might even be icon-worthy)
but seriously, i mean, you can't pick up on *everything* the first time around... ;)
i don't know how long it's been since you read shades of ianto (haven't quite finished it yet myself) but...
the beginning is fantastic, it starts with a shocker, it has intriguing oc's, ianto's voice rings true, and the jack/ianto interaction is believable.
i really liked action!ianto, it was a nice change to canon. ahem.
but as the story moves on i felt it moves away at racing speed from the characters as we know them. that's a phenomenon i observed in some longfics, the longer they are the more folks turn into wishfulfillment!characters. i understand this story stretches over some time so there is going to be a certain amount of change for everyone. but, i don't know... there's character developement and then there's..., er, oc-ness. (even if only some.)
that tosh ends up with one of the oc's rings a bit like everybody's got to be fixed up with someone. oh no, wait, owen has to die alone and bitter.
anyway, i'll stop ranting now because it still is a good story. really. there's some awesome writing, and hey, plot! like a whole fucking bucket full of it. and ianto wearing a "Save Carson Beckett"-tee!
because it is flourishing awesomeness i'll quote for your pleasure:
The staff quickly grew accustomed to his steady (armed) watch, bringing him coffee (abysmal) and sandwiches he didn't taste. One doctor even took pity on his appearance and brought him a clean t-shirt that read "Save Carson Beckett" with a like-named website and a picture of some actor on the front.
Not having the slightest clue who Carson Beckett was and why he needed saving, Ianto asked once he'd changed out of the bloodied white tee.
"Oh, he's a character on Stargate Atlantis. I figured since you were just standing there, you might as well promote the cause."
aww, just cracks me up. major case of discontinuity though when they meet the sga team later on. but hey, having john naming two freaking dragons 'tim' and 'bill' is pretty much worth it... :D
what did you think of the story?
(no subject)
Date: 2008-06-06 12:15 pm (UTC)Yeah, I agree with you on all accounts. And I got Gary Stu vibes from Ianto sometimes too, when he was being overly secretive. Oh, and the bit with the Doctor felt off too. Don't know why exactly.
OMG I loved that part! And yes, John and Ronon, that was pretty awesome <33
